A little about me.
My name is Chelsé otherwise known as The Fat Black Educator and most affectionately in my home known as Big Mama. I am first and foremost a mother, nurturer, wife, and home maker a role I’ve dreamed of since childhood. I enjoy exploring nature with my little ones, experimenting in the kitchen, dreaming of our future and taking great joy in making memories while capturing them on film.
When I’m serving my community I do so in the role of full spectrum Birthworker babywearing educator, and biological infant sleep and well-being specialist. I have a passion for community work and continued education. As I wrap up my studies as a certified lactation counselor and prepare for certification I am excited to continue learning all I can about everything from infant sleep to lactation.
In addition to 1:1 support through babywearing consults and full spectrum care virtual and online I am the creator of the Birthworkers of Color Coalition of Greater Rochester. Facilitator of a weekly social club affectionately known as Postpartum in The Park (currently gathering indoors at Winton Library). Organizer of The Village, a local group for Black and brown parents to gather over playdates and monthly brunch. I also coordinate and host zero cost educational opportunities in the realm of community workshops for marginalized and or low income families highlighting the beautiful art of wearing babies.
I have a special interest in sharing my skillset and education with the families I support along with a passion for challenging western ideals and societies expectations and demands on the family structure.
I look forward to continuing to support my community in any and every way that I can. Perhaps you and I will cross paths soon, until then.
A huge part of my work is a commitment to continued education, feel free to see what training’s and educational opportunities I’ve been apart of/attending below.
